Provincetown Sunset Elopement: An Adventure Aboard the Schooner Bay Lady II
It may seem obvious, but when planning an adventure elopement its important to embrace the keyword, and sometimes the adventure is making the best of a cloudy forecast. In the story of Amanda and Christopher’s day, in one of their favorite places on earth, Provincetown, Massachusetts, we learn how important it is to let go, be flexible and ready to pivot, and above all, remember to have fun and enjoy the best day of your life. This unforgettable day that proves nothing, not even a looming rain cloud, can dampen the spirits of two people ready to celebrate their love. If you're searching for a Schooner Bay Lady II elopement photographer or for another New England adventure elopement, then continue on to see if I’m the photographer for you!
The Ultimate Adventure Mindset: Go-With-The-Flow and Be Ready To Pivot
My day officially began at their gorgeous AirBNB in nearby Truro. From the moment I arrived the vibes were relaxed, joyful, and full of fun. Even the conflicting reports about the weather forecast and the status of their sunset sail on the Schooner Bay Lady II kept changing, but Amanda remained positive that no matter what, that was going to be the best day of her life. She spent the morning and afternoon singing and dancing as she got ready — signs of a bride who knew their love was the only thing that mattered. When it seemed like the rain would be too much for the schooner, she even said she would be willing to have her ceremony in the rain on the beach, if that’s what it took. A part of me was excited at the thought, but I’m always ready to pivot no matter what your adventure elopement brings our way.
Amanda looked absolutely stunning, thanks to her talented hair stylist and make-up artists, Lyndsey Callahan and Maria Piccardi, who created her gorgeous look.
A Passionate First-Look on a Private Truro Beach: Getting Lost in the Moment
Before heading into Provincetown, we took advantage of the beautiful, private beach just a short walk from their AirBNB in Truro. This is where the magic truly began. Amanda and Christopher shared their first look, which is always a lovely moment and creates breathtaking photos. While Christopher was very reluctant about being photographed, all that faded away the instant he saw his beautiful bride. That’s when they get lost in the moment and share a truly intimate moment so genuine I barely needed to give them any direction.
Side Note: For couples planning a P-Town wedding, don't overlook the beautiful, quiet beaches and dunes just outside the main town area for secluded photo opportunities!
The Schooner Bay Lady II: A Sunset Elopement on Deck
Ultimately, the questionable weather reports and shifting forecasts meant the Schooner Bay Lady II did not set sail, however, we were still able to hold the wedding on the deck, we just stayed docked in the marina for safety. We did have a newborn with us after all. From the AirBNB, we had a fun a ride from the Mayflower Trolley to the marina in Provincetown.
While we were all a little sad we didn’t get to watch the sunset from the water, Amanda and Christopher simply pivoted their day and made the most of it. They still shared their beautiful vows and exchanged rings right on the deck of the schooner, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Even though I was excited to capture some photos from the water, I did have more room to work with and was able to get some shots I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. After they shared their first kiss, and were officially married, Amanda carried her phone, DJing and dancing, and we all enjoyed the sunset with food, drinks, and a whole lot of laughter.
Although the rain never came, we were gifted with a gorgeous sunset and an epic rainbow. The sky was full of bright fiery colors which helped me to create some of my favorite sunset photos of the whole year. The calm water, the ships filling the marina, and the couple’s genuine passion made for an incredibly romantic and iconic backdrop.
Advice for Your Adventure Elopement: The number one piece of advice for a day like this is simple: Prepare for anything and be ready to pivot. Adventure is the key word. Have an alternative plan, and remember that your relaxed, go-with-the-flow attitude is your best asset!
