Unposed, Unfiltered: Your Love Story, Authentically Captured

I used to really hate photos of myself. I’d feel awkward and never thought the photos really captured my personality. I discovered, once I started appearing in photos with my wife, that the best photos were when we weren’t looking at the camera, but instead lost in a moment or in each others eyes. When everything else has faded away and you’re living in your own little world, oblivious to the camera, those are my favorite moments to capture. My approach to wedding photography is all about creating an environment where my couples can be themselves and connect deeply, I aim to create stunning photos that genuinely reflect their personalities and love story.

Built From Childhood Dreams: Directing Your Love Story

When I was a kid I wanted to make movies, so it’s no wonder how I grew up working behind a camera. Throughout your wedding day I will direct you like you are acting out a scene. I don’t want you holding stiff poses or fake smiles, so I will provide you with simple and fun prompts, which are designed to get you moving, connecting with your spouse, being in the moment, and, most importantly, forgetting about the camera. From there, it’s just a matter of placing you in the best lighting or with an epic background. While many other photographers prefer the “fly-on-the-wall” approach, hoping for a great photo, I use a mixed approach between capturing the authentic moments of your day, documentary style, and setting the stage and directing you to evoke genuine emotions. The most important part, for me, is that you have fun with the person you’re marrying on your wedding day, and to not overwhelm you, or your day, with photography.

Your Wedding Photographer’s Origin Story: Adventures, Awful Photos, and Finding My Focus

I bought my first camera shortly after adopting my first dog, Dani. We had some fun adventures in those days, getting lost in the woods for an hour and taking awful photos. My photography skills improved over the years and I was starting to find some work with my camera. I began my career with commercial work, by taking headshots, real estate, and product photography, but it all clicked after I got the opportunity to be the second photographer for a wedding, there was no looking back. I fell in love with every part of the process and the connections couples build with their wedding photographer. Not to mention, I was taking the best photos of my career (up to that point).

Love at First Slice: My Love Story

My wife and I met while I was working in my uncle’s pizza shop. She worked in the same plaza and would order lunch from us at least once a week. Shy glances and awkward conversations grew over time into friendship, until I finally worked up the courage to ask her on a date. And what a date it was! We had an instant connection that continues to grow stronger every day. Years later, Hannah told me that when her mom asked how our first date went, she responded by saying, “I’m going to marry him," and that’s exactly what happened. I married my best friend in May of 2018 and we still find ways to fall in love with each other every day.

Beyond The Shutter: A Glimpse Into My Daily Life

During the Covid lockdowns, while I was working from home, we adopted another puppy. Ripley is the sweetest and friendliest dog you will ever meet. She loves adventures in the car, face kisses, and being a bratty younger sister. Dani and Ripley usually like to begin every day by playing with each other and they are pretty inseparable. Spending time with them is the best part of my day, every day. We have been living in Manchester, NH since 2019 and you can often find me wandering around the city, either with my dogs, or my camera, or both. When I’m not being a photographer I love being in the kitchen cooking a delicious dinner for my wife, or lost in the fictional worlds and adventures found in books, movies, and video games, or hunting for a new vinyl record to add to my growing collection.

Beyond Photography

My Other Hobbies & Interests

Movies & Filmmaking

My passion for photography grew out of my lifelong love for the movies. From the silent classics to the next installment of the MCU, I am always ready to make some popcorn and get lost in the magical worlds and thrilling adventures. Some of my favorite movies include Jurassic Park, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, E.T., Casablanca, Rear Window, District 9, Good Will Hunting, Young Frankenstein, and Spider-Man. I’m still chasing my boyhood dream of directing my own movie, someday…

Cooking

Whether it’s a simple a light breakfast or the Thanksgiving feast, I love being in the kitchen. I have been experimenting in the kitchen ever since I learned how to make toast as a boy. My first job was at my uncle’s pizza shop, where I learned so much. I cook a delicious dinner for my wife, almost every night, with fresh ingredients from the local farmer’s market.

Writing

Writing is another hobby that was born out of my love for movies. As a kid, I would handwrite screenplays and short stories about aliens and zombies. So many ideas that still circle around my head to this day. I may not be a famous screenwriter or novelist, but I write almost every single day. Sometimes I write in my journal, other times I am writing blog post chronicling my adventures as a wedding photographer. When I was younger, writing seemed to be a cool way to make a living, now that I’m older I understand and appreciate the discipline and therapy.

Drawing, Sketching, & Painting

I probably won’t go down in history for my sketches or painting, but it does help me to look at the world around me differently, specifically when I’m behind the camera. At the very beginning of Covid, my wife and I took up oil painting for a little while. I followed along to a couple of Bob Ross videos and painted the eruption of Mount Doom. I may paint about once a year, but I’m not really keeping track.

Collecting

I’ve always enjoyed collecting. I’m not serious about it, at any extent, but I do have a decent collection of collections. My oldest, largest, and most obvious collection, if you’ve read this far, is my movie collection, with 700+ DVDs and Blu-Rays. I also have much smaller collections of books, comics, vinyl records, art, photographs, and Funko POPS.

“Mike was a great wedding photographer. He was kind, patient, and made me feel at ease. I don't normally like photos of myself but he captured our joy of the day while still wrangling the family for group shots. I recommend him for your photography needs.” Alexis & AJ
