How I Capture Real Moments, Not Just Poses, on Your Wedding Day
While looking through various wedding photographer’s portfolios, you might find yourself gravitating towards photos that feel, well, real. Maybe it’s a couple caught in a fit of laughter, or sharing a flirty glance, or tears filling up in a parent’s eyes. If you’ve been imagining a wedding album filled with these authentic, unscripted moments that reflect your unique love story, then you’re in the right place!
My Leap of Faith into Film Photography | Maria & Josh’s Traditional Catholic Wedding on 35mm Black and White Film
For years, I've been thinking of exploring film photography. And this year, I finally took the leap, by bringing a single roll of black and white film and an old Minolta with a broken light meter to Maria and Josh's wedding. While I captured their full day on my digital cameras, I also carefully stretched that roll of film, shooting entirely off instinct, guided by over a decade of experience. Their ceremony at St. Joseph Church in Epping and reception at Camelot at the Holy Grail provided such beautiful backdrops, even with the rain.
Mikayla and Stephen’s Autumn Wedding at Castleton in Windham, NH | Fall Wedding Photography
Not every wedding day goes exactly as planned — and Mikayla and Stephen's autumn wedding at Castleton in Windham, NH is proof that wedding days don't always need to. When the rain moved their ceremony indoors, Castleton proved exactly why it's one of my favorite venues in southern New Hampshire — it handled the change beautifully without missing a beat. I knew from the moment I met Mikayla and Stephen for their engagement session that their wedding day was going to be something special. They were natural in front of the camera from the start — warm, passionate, and completely in love with each other. Their fall wedding at Castleton remains one of my favorites of 2024, rain and all.
Sheridan and Shail’s Enchanting Autumn Wedding at Searles Chapel in Windham, NH
Sheridan and Shail’s enchanting wedding was special for many reasons, but I have a personal connection to their wedding because my wife and I got married at Searles Chapel in Windham, NH., as well. Ever since my wedding I had been hoping to photograph a wedding there myself, and that’s why I was so excited when they reached out. Searles Chapel is a quaint, yet breathtaking, place to get married. The chapel resembles a storybook castle and will make any wedding feel like a fairytale.
Fall Wedding Photography at Locke Falls Farm in Wonalancet, NH | Bride and Groom’s Intimate and Private Moments On Their Wedding Day | First Look, Private Vow Reading, and Golden Hour Portraits
Every wedding, whether it’s big or small, is full of love, not just for the couple getting married, but also from close family and friends, and they are all going to be fighting for the bride and groom’s attention the entire day. Even though your wedding day is supposed to be about the love you have for the person you’re marrying, they’ll most likely be the person you spend the least amount of time with on your special day. That’s why I always insist on my couples spending the most amount of time they can together and have those moments be truly special. There’s not a ton of time most wedding days, but there are some magical moments throughout the day that will give you that quality time with your bride or groom.

There’s really nothing like a fall wedding, especially in New England. The auburn and golden trees create truly stunning backdrops and the crisp fall air makes everyone want to fall in love. Julie and Mike got married at The Riverwalk Resort at Loon Mountain and their special day was absolutely magical. With the gorgeous weather they were able to have their ceremony at the base of the mountain, with the famous fall foliage and the bright sun shining down on the happy couple.
Wedding Photography at Sky Meadow Country Club with Sarah & Ryan | Summer Wedding Photography with a First Look
Sarah and Ryan got married on a gorgeous day at the end of August. Their wedding was held at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH and the gardens surrounding the ceremony site were lush with colorful flowers and I couldn’t think of a better place to get married! The course created a stunning view where we were able to create stunning and romantic wedding photos without needing to spend too much time searching around for the perfect spot. There were so many interesting places for photos and you couldn’t possibly explore them all on a single wedding day.
Chelsea & Ryan's Adventure Elopement in Acadia National Park | Bar Harbor, Maine
Acadia National Park had been on my list for a long time — not just as a place I wanted to visit, but as a place I desperately wanted to photograph. When Chelsea and Ryan reached out about eloping there in October, I wanted to be their photographer immediately. I drove four hours from Manchester to Bar Harbor, settled into a converted tea house at their AirBnB — which was all mine for the next two nights — and headed out to explore downtown. I found a bar with incredible fresh fish tacos, fell into easy conversation with strangers from all over the country about weddings and photography and life, and went to bed early knowing I needed to be up long before sunrise. The next morning Ryan appeared at my door with fresh hot coffee and the news that pumpkin pancakes were on the way — and just like that, one of the best days of my career had officially begun. What followed were the best twelve hours of my photography career, starting off with thick morning fog, peak fall foliage, rocky Maine coastline, a rescue dog named Milo, a first dance in the middle of the road, and two people who chose to spend the most important day of their lives exactly as themselves — adventurous, intimate, and completely free.
