Acadia National Park Elopement Photographer
Some days behind the camera feel like gifts — and Chelsea and Ryan's elopement at Acadia National Park was one of the greatest gifts I've ever received. We woke before sunrise, the fog was thick and heavy across the entire park, and what was supposed to be a sunrise ceremony at the top of Cadillac Mountain became something even more extraordinary — a morning on the rocky coast of Hunter's Beach, just the two of them, their rescue dog Milo, and the Atlantic Ocean completely swallowed by fog. They climbed up on the rocks and privately shared their vows while Milo sat faithfully by their side, and I knew in that moment I was watching something I'd carry with me for the rest of my life. As an elopement photographer based in Manchester, NH, I travel throughout Maine and New England for elopements — and Acadia National Park is at the very top of my list. Why Acadia National Park is One of the Most Magical Places to Elope in New England
Acadia offers something no traditional wedding venue ever could — the feeling that your entire wedding day belongs only to you. No ballroom, no seating chart, no timeline dictated by a catering staff. Just the two of you, a landscape that will take your breath away, and a photographer who knows how to find the magic in every corner of the park. Every location within Acadia tells a different story — here are some of my favorites and what makes each one special for an elopement.
Cadillac Mountain — At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard and one of the first places in the United States to see the sunrise. For couples who want their elopement to begin with something truly extraordinary, a sunrise ceremony at the summit of Cadillac Mountain is as dramatic and meaningful as it gets. On clear mornings the views stretch endlessly across the Atlantic — and on foggy mornings, the clouds swirl around you like something from another world entirely.
Hunter's Beach — One of Acadia's best kept secrets and my personal favorite location in the entire park. The short hike from the road to the beach passes through ancient forest before opening onto a stunning rocky coastline — and every step of that walk is a photography opportunity. The beach itself is dramatic, raw, and completely intimate, especially in the early morning before the park fills with visitors. Chelsea and Ryan shared their vows here on a foggy October morning and I will never forget it.
Jordan Pond — The mirror-like surface of Jordan Pond reflecting the iconic Bubbles mountains is one of the most breathtaking views in all of New England. In fall the surrounding foliage turns every shade of orange and gold, and the combination of still water, mountain backdrop, and peak color creates images that look genuinely otherworldly. Jordan Pond is also one of the most accessible locations in the park making it a perfect stop during a full day elopement adventure.
Thunder Hole — The dramatic rock formations at Thunder Hole create some of the most striking and powerful backdrops in the park. The roar of the ocean crashing into the carved granite inlet adds a visceral, cinematic energy to portraits that you simply cannot replicate anywhere else. Chelsea and Ryan shared a kiss here that drew cheers from the strangers around them — and in that moment, they both agreed they wouldn't have had their day any other way.
Sand Beach — The only sandy beach in Acadia National Park and one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in all of Maine. In October the surrounding hillsides are ablaze with fall color and the contrast of vibrant foliage against the steel blue Atlantic is absolutely stunning. Some of my all time favorite images from any session or wedding have been taken on this beach.
Otter Cliff — Rising 110 feet above the Atlantic, Otter Cliff is one of the most dramatic coastal locations on the entire Eastern Seaboard. The sheer granite face dropping straight into the ocean creates portraits that feel genuinely epic — wide, cinematic, and completely unique to Acadia.
Bar Harbor — The charming coastal village of Bar Harbor is the perfect complement to a day spent in the park. Wandering through the streets, ducking into a small bookstore, dancing through a quiet park at golden hour — Bar Harbor adds a warmth and intimacy to an Acadia elopement that balances beautifully against the raw drama of the park itself.
A note about travel and lodging
For any elopement or wedding that's four or more hours from Manchester, I always plan for at least two nights on location. Arriving the evening before gives me time to get familiar with the area, rest properly, and wake up on your wedding morning with nothing on my mind except making your day extraordinary. For Chelsea and Ryan's elopement I arrived in Bar Harbor the night before, found a great spot for fish tacos downtown, and woke up the next morning to fresh coffee and pumpkin pancakes before we headed out into the fog together. That unhurried, fully present approach is something I'm committed to for every destination elopement — and if you're able to accommodate me nearby, I'm always happy to discuss a reduced travel rate.
