Spring Engagement Session at Tarbin Gardens in Franklin, NH
There's something about Tarbin Gardens in Franklin, NH in the spring that makes every couple feel like they've stepped into their own private world. Last spring I returned to the gardens with Morgan and Joey for their engagement session — the flowers just beginning to bloom, the paths quiet and unhurried, and the whole afternoon feeling like we had the most beautiful garden in New Hampshire entirely to ourselves. The forecast had threatened rain, which I was secretly hoping for because of the romantic mood it creates, but the skies were kind to us and gave us something even better — warm spring light and blooms in every direction.
Morgan and Joey are a fun, adventurous couple — and like many, they mentioned feeling a little awkward in front of the camera when we first met. That's always music to my ears. My approach has never been about posing couples perfectly — it's about giving them a simple prompt, pointing them toward beautiful light, and letting the real moments happen naturally. And these two delivered in every way. Their session was filled with spontaneous laughter, quiet tender moments, and genuine connection as we wandered through the blooming gardens together. The kind of unscripted moments that make the best photos — and the ones you'll still be smiling at years from now.
As an extra treat, this session also gave me the perfect opportunity to try out a new film camera — and Tarbin Gardens in spring is about as ideal a setting for film photography as you could possibly find. The soft light, the vibrant colors, the natural textures of the gardens — everything that makes film so beautiful was on full display that afternoon.
